The Draw kicks off Kickstarter fund for new album

After performing at different open mics and music venues, like Hotel Café in the Los Angeles area, The Draw, an alternative rock band, is in the works of recording a full length album. With every dream come jumping over obstacles. In this case, The Draw has created a Kickstarter Fund in order to take their music to the next level and pay for all the aspects of what go into creating an album.  The link can be found here:  “https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/991260721/the-draw-is-making-their-debut-album”

The Draw initially formed with two members – Julie Lavery on vocals, and Neshaminy graduate Spencer Broschard on guitar – both of whom attended Berklee College of Music in Boston. Eventually the duo added on three members, Alec the drummer, an old college friend, Vito the violinist was found on Craigslist and Paul the bassist was ‘poached’ from a friend’s band.

With time, The Draw’s sound has evolved and manifested into something very unique, considering there is a violin in an alternative rock band. “When we first started as a duo, our songwriting was very folky. I was only playing acoustic guitar and we had no percussion so violin made sense to us as a next addition. The first time Vito ran his violin through a wah-wah pedal, we knew it was going to work,” guitarist Broschard said.
As for getting off on the right foot, the band did just that. Through hard work and loads of networking The Draw started playing everywhere at lesser known venues until they got their feet wet and began playing larger shows. “My dream venue is Red Rocks in Colorado. It’s an outdoor amphitheater built into the red rocks out in the desert. I spent way too much time in high school watching Incubus’ DVD “Alive at Red Rocks,” and it just looks like a magical place to play music,” Broschard said.

The Draw always searches to push boundaries and further their music. “On our upcoming album, we have songs about relationships, politics, money, and everything in between,” Broschard noted. Writing songs stays between Broschard and Lavery for songwriting to them remains personal and non-replicable; holding true for many others as well. In addition to the world and experiences, the band draws inspiration from other bands/artists, “Personally, my biggest influences have always been rock bands with strong singers like Metallica, Incubus, or Alter Bridge. As a band, however, we are inspired by so many different artists and genres from jazz to funk to country and beyond,” Broschard said.
Playing live is a completely different atmosphere than recording in a studio. “When the show goes well, there’s nothing like it. It really is like a drug,” Broschard said.  Music can become an addiction, a passion, a life.
With a constantly evolving sound and a set of well-grounded, down to earth members; The Draw will surely need no luck of the draw to succeed.
