Prom is a’comin

With prom season right around the corner, dresses are in high demand. Styles range from princess ball gowns and pastel colors to slim fit mermaids and corset dresses.

This year prom dress trends have taken a turn towards seductive, yet still elegant. “I really like simplicity, I feel like a lot of girls try to show as much skin as possible and tack on thousands of jewels, but the prettiest dresses tend to be the classier and cleaner ones.” junior Molly McDonald said.

Many retailers are offering the corset dress which has an illusion fabric that creates a see through panel in the center of the dress making it quite daring. Other trends include dresses with soft, light, fluent qualities in colors like blush pink and striking navy. Black actually seems to be missing from action this year as navy blue begins to dominate.

Prom dresses are available on a budget as well. Websites like Rent the Runway and Etsy are a couple of popular places known for good deals. Rent the Runway allows customers to rent high end designer apparel from four to eight days. Dress prices range from $30 to over $200. As an added bonus, a second size of the rented item will be sent to every customer free of charge. The site also rents jewelry, handbags, and shoes.

Etsy is a website known for vintage and handmade clothing created and curated by people all around the world. Since some sellers are making handmade dresses, this requires customers to send in personal measurements, which reduces time on the hassle of alterations later on. It can be a real benefit and time saver. On Etsy, the ability to find unique dresses is endless.
