Battle of the Mexican hot spots

Everyone knows and loves Chipotle Mexican Grill, but is there a newbie restaurant taking its place? Opening just a few months ago, California Tortilla has taken Mexican food to a whole new level. Located in the Langhorne Square Shopping Center, this restaurant is giving Chipotle some serious competition.

Chipotle might not have the biggest variety on their menu, but they definitely win in taste. “I just love their rice,” junior Sheena Patel said. On the other hand, people are raving about California Tortilla’s burritos, which were voted number one in Washington, D.C this past year according to the company’s website. “Their burritos are really good,” Patel said.

Restaurant-goers wish that Chipotle had more sauces to spice up their food. “Their sauce is so much better,” said senior Samantha White referencing to the “Wall of Flame” at California Tortilla. This legendary sauce collection contains over 75 hot sauces ranging from zero to ten, with zero being mild and ten being flaming hot.

“The interior decoration of California Tortilla is fun casual and very bright. The colors are very warm and inviting and make you want to come in for a delicious meal,” freshman Sophie Weber said.

Students love the high tables and stools in Chipotle’s cafeteria style dining area, although the crowd is damaging to their reputation. ”When I go to Chipotle there is always a line out the door, and I have to take my food home because it so loud!” explained freshman Val Musse. “Chipotle is definitely more popular and crowded than California Tortilla which isn’t as well known,” Weber said.

There are two fast food Mexican restaurants in town now, and California Tortilla might just be taking over Chipotle. With California Tortilla’s “taco talk” and promotions, Chipotle could be up for a wake-up call.
