Tourism in 2015: top spots for this year’s travels

In today’s day and age, Americans are working more and making vacations a lesser priority than at any point in almost 40 years. So how will nearly non-existent leisure time be spent as the New Year reigns in?

Tourism industry research from Euromonitor International, a market research company, determined that when Americans travel internationally; they tend to stay close to home.

In 2014, the most popular destination by far was Mexico. 20,916,000 trips and vacations were booked there alone. As predicted by Euromonitor, it will again be a favorite this year with an estimated 21, 297,000. Some travelers are worried about gang and drug-related areas like Acapulco or Sinaloa; places like Cabo San Lucas and Cancun remain popular for the partying scene and cultural background.

The second most popular destination was northern neighbor Canada. According to Euromonitor, American took about 12,331,000 to the beautiful country. An estimated 12,481,000 will travel there this year. The Reputation Institute, a global management company, ranked Canada as one of the best places to visit in the world for its safe environment, enticing landscape and respectable people.

Bringing in third place was Great Britain. An estimated 2,516,000 trips were taken in 2014 and an estimated 2,546,000 trips will be taken there in 2015 according to Euromonitor. More popular areas of Great Britain like Scotland, Northern Ireland and England attracted the majority of Americans; whereas other parts only attracted about 30 percent.

Rounding up the top 11 countries to travel to in 2015 include – Spain, Japan, the Bahamas, France, Italy, Germany, China and Jamaica.
