The University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication (SOJC) named four student editors of The Playwickian as winners of the Ancil Payne Award for Ethics in Journalism. Co-Editors in Chief Reed Hennessy and Gillian McGoldrick and Co -Managing Editors Madison Buffardi and Jackson Haines were named as recipients of the honor.
The SOJC’s announcement cited in particular the editors’ resolve in the face of adversity as representing their commitment to journalistic ethics.
According to the SOJC, they are the first high-schoolers ever nominated for the honor.
All Payne Award recipients, including those from other publications, will take part in a panel on May 20 and receive the award on May 21 at the University of Oregon.
McGoldrick, Hennessy, Haines and Buffardi are honored to have received the award, and the editors look forward to the possible opportunity to travel out to Oregon.
