Neshaminy has had a great year with many teams achieving many great accomplishments. The girls basketball team is having the season to remember this year, winning their league conference undefeated and being the first team in many years to go to the state finals this year. The team has had many standout athletes this season, including Morgan Goldenbaum, Devon Storms, Thyra Tuttle, Tiara Porterfield and Emily Alexis.
The potential of winning a league title takes a lot of work, but to win the title, go undefeated, and go to states takes something else. The girls always practice four to five times every week to prepare themselves mentally and physically. The girls recently had another basketball game on Friday night against Hazelton high school, where they were down seven points during the first half but came back with nine points to win the game 50-41.
“At half time we talked about defense and how our defense had to be stronger, so we knew we had to stick to our man and not let anyone get an open shot, cut through, get open,” Goldenbaum said.”We tried on offense putting me and Brooke down low, getting the ball in to post up which also created times where we could pass the ball out and get open jump shots. So we adjusted a lot which helped us win the game,”
The experience at a state competition is one that cannot be explained with words, but by actions and opportunities that are there for the taking. “It’s a cool experience to do this all, like go to states, ride a two hour bus ride with your team, have food on the way, it’s going to be even cooler to come back to the high school in a couple of years and see your banner still up there saying you were the first team to go to states and the first team to be undefeated in the SOL,” said Devon Storms.
Last week, the girls took on Upper Dublin on Mar. 8 in the second round of the playoffs. The girls took the win with the final score of 53-35.
Neshaminy advanced to the “Elite Eight” of the state through capturing in both the first and second rounds in the PIAA AAAA class tournament.
All good things must come to an end eventually, and this is exactly what happened on Friday night (March While much of the Neshaminy student body was participating in the 63rd annual Gym Night, the girls basketball team was battling North Penn for a place in the state semi-finals.
Neshaminy was in the lead for the majority of the game excluding the last few minutes. By the time the final buzzer sounded North Penn had overcome a 12 point deficit beating Neshaminy 42-41.
Goldenbaum led the team in scoring with a total of 13 points. Freshmen Brooke Mullin followed close behind with 10 points. Allison Harvey, also a freshman, totaled seven points.
“It’s just a cool experience because it’s not going to happen a lot,” Storms said.
