Neshaminy’s Boys’ varsity soccer team took their first setback last Wednesday against William Tennent. In a long and drawn-out game until that went in to overtime, each team matched each other’s energy to end the game, only to result in a one to one tie.
The beginning of the game began with high bursts of speed, energy, and movement. William Tennent took the early lead in the first half, resulting in a one to zero lead. For much of the second half the score did not change and gave Neshaminy a reason to keep on fighting.
The second half looked better for Neshaminy after they made their first goal of the game, tying the game at one to one. However, the rest of the game was scoreless and the two teams went into overtime.
The game ended with a tie of one to one, and both teams were frustrated. “We just managed to steal a tie,” Tom Foley, Boys’ varsity soccer coach said.
“It’s a competitive and a tough league,” said William Tennent’s Boys’ varsity soccer coach Luke Gibson. Facing the defenders of last year’s championship title was a challenge for Tennent on Wednesday, but Neshaminy did not come out on top.
Even though Neshaminy is coming into a season after taking the championship title the previous year, there are still things to improve upon. “Possession, stay quick, and take control of midfield,” said Foley. “We were really slow, need to improve communication, and hustle more,” said senior player Dan Martin. The stage has been set for Neshaminy as fall is right around the corner, but they are ready and willing to defend their championship title.
