Unfortunately on May 22 Chris Tenaglia and his ’Skins playoff run ended abruptly with a 7 to 1 loss against 10 seed, Pennridge. “First round was a case of us running into a hot team not playing our game,” assistant varsity coach James Kelly said. The ‘Skins had a phenomenal 2013 season, finishing first in the Suburban One National District with a record of 11 and 3, and an overall record of 16 and 5.
While the ‘Skins playoff run may have run ended too soon, however their overall season performance had District championship written all over it. “I think the season went very well. We were able to do some great things and start to get the program back to where we want it to be,” Kelly said.
Finishing 62 in the state of 666 high school teams in Pennsylvania, and peaking at 2 in the rankings for high school baseball teams in southeastern PA the ‘Skins 2013 season was stellar. Senior Justin Andrews, Captain of the ‘Skins baseball team, finished the season with a 464 batting average and a 526 on base percentage.
Andrews also recieved first team all league pitcher and outfield; along with Sean Udris first team all league third base, and Cole Creighton second team all league pitcher. Andrews also attained the coveted four year gold varsity letter.
One outstanding aspect of this year was the pitching, Andrews stood out with a record of 8 wins and no losses and an Earned Run Average of 1.88. Also finishing the season with a commendable ERA of 1.24 Junior Cole Creighton also had no losses with 4 wins.
Leading the team in hits with 32, Andrews started his freshman year on the varsity squad and finished his Neshaminy baseball career on varsity. While Head Coach Chris Tenaglia will be missing Andrews along with six other Seniors Tenaglia is confident he will have yet another successful season.
With the departure of various team leaders like Andrews, next year there will be a slew of Juniors and several Seniors. Coach Tenaglia was incredibly pleased with his team’s performance this year, and expects great things in the future.
This past season without a doubt has been the resurgence of the Neshaminy baseball program. “The 2013 season went extremely well as the Redskins brought home the first SOL National Conference Championship in over a decade,” Tenaglia said.
Next season will prove to be an even more successful season for Neshaminy. With various underclassmen developing into all-star athltes.
Neshaminy baseball is headed in a direction to being the dominant force in the SOL National conference. This season may have ended abrubtly but looking back it has been a memorable season.
