LANGHORNE, Pa. — Neshaminy surprised many this past season after an unexpected playoff run that, despite ultimately ending prematurely, surely had a big impact on the school and Neshaminy community.
“I thought we had a good week of practice and were prepared but we came out a little bit flat,” Neshaminy head coach Nick Felus told PhillyBurbs. “I’ll take responsibility, but hats off to Coach Beck and North Penn. They were ready to play tonight and went after us a little bit.”
The Neshaminy varsity football team was not expected to go on an extensive playoff run heading into autumn as football season was beginning. In 2024, the team finished with a record of 6-5, ranked 120th in the state of Pennsylvania. In 2025, they shocked everyone with a record of 9-4, ranked 69th.
And Neshaminy’s success wasn’t limited to the regular season. Following a sweeping 35-14 victory over longtime rival Pennsbury, Neshaminy went on an exciting win streak by defeating Central Bucks West 28-21 and Owen J. Roberts 49-21. This set up a matchup against North Penn in the district semifinal.
North Penn rolled in early, taking a 20-0 lead over Neshaminy midway through the second quarter. North Penn led 26-7 by halftime, and ultimately won with a final score of 35-7.
“It just wasn’t our night tonight, for whatever reason,” Felus said. “The effort was there and we played hard. What a ride these seniors have had.”
Despite that heartbreaking loss, the team’s immense success had a lasting impact on the school and community. Neshaminy was a top 100 team in the state for the first time since 2018, and the district semifinal appearance was the school’s first in a decade.
The season may not have ended the way Neshaminy hoped — but the fact that they have established a winning culture for the first time in years gives students and fans hope for the future.
“One game doesn’t define our season whether you win or lose,” Felus said. “It’s supposed to hurt. It’s going to hurt, but the effort was there. The kids, they’re so gritty. They’re so tough. We faced so much adversity. I couldn’t even tell you the adversity that we faced this year with some different things. New coach, a lot of new coaches on the staff, whole new offense, whole new defense. It’s not easy and these kids made it look easy at times. We’re thankful for everything they’ve done for the program.”
