The tea of the summer was exactly like the weather, scorching hot. Although school took a break, celebrities continued stirring the pot with both tragic and exciting news.
June 18 – XXXTentacion Death
Famous rapper Jahseh Onfroy, more commonly known as XXXTentacion, was killed in a shooting while leaving a motorcycle dealership. Once pronounced dead, social media platforms buzzed about the controversies surrounding how Onfroy should be remembered.
June 27 – Big Brother 20 Kickoff
The infamous reality T.V. show, “Big Brother,” kicked off its 20th season on June 27. The season was filled with major blindsides and a new twist for its newest 16 houseguests. The “Hacker Competition” gives one houseguest the power to change the game. Kaycee Clark was recently crowned winner in the jaw-dropping finale of “Big Brother 20” and a new season is currently being cast....
July 9 – Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber Announce Engagement
After years of rocky water between the two lovers, celebrities Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber announced their engagement on July 9. The proposal took place in the Bahamas two days prior. Bieber posted to his Instagram, “we got engaged on the seventh day of the seventh month,” to make the big announcement.
July 25 – Demi Lovato Overdose
Demi Lovato was admitted to the hospital on July 25 due to a heroin overdose. Prior to releasing “Sober,” in Apr. 2018, the song gave hints about Lovato’s most recent relapse. The song gave hints about Lovato’s most recent relapse. Lovato has recently made her first public appearance since the overdose, and is still struggling on her journey towards sobriety.
Aug. 10 – Nicki Minaj Releases “Queen”
Rapper Nicki Minaj hasn’t released a full album since Dec. 15, 2014, however, Minaj released her fourth album, “Queen” on Aug. 10. Her new album is mainly hip-hop with a little pop and R&B thrown into the mix. Other artists such as Eminem and Future are also featured on the album.
Aug. 17 – Ariana Grande “Sweetener” Release
Artist Ariana Grande released her fourth album, “Sweetener” on Aug. 17. According to Grande, the album title is in reference to making a bad situation better by, “sweetening the situation.” Recently, Grande has been going through a hard time and is questioning taking her new album on tour.
Aug. 17 – “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” Release
Netflix Original Movie, “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before”, was released on Aug. 17. The movie features Lara Jean, played by Lana Condor, as she struggles to hide her love for multiple of her ex-crushes. Peter Kravinsky, played by Noah Centineo, hatches a scheme with Lara Jean to make his ex-girlfriend jealous. In the end, Lara Jean ends up on the ride of a lifetime.
Sept. 25 – Dunkin’ Donuts Drops Last Name
The company Dunkin’ Donuts tweeted about its new rebranding. According to Dunkin’, “We’re moving to a first-name basis. Excited to be #BFFstatus with you all.” For almost the past year, Dunkin’ Donuts locations have been testing out the new, shortened name — Dunkin’.
