From physics to World War II planes, Brian Walter is an exceptional teacher at Neshaminy. Here are nine questions that help you learn more about this hockey playing, costume designing, guitar playing, physics expert.
Q: How long have you been a teacher?
A: This is my 14th year teaching
Q: You’re really into WW2 planes…. when did you get into that? What’s your favorite plane?
A: I have always been interested in airplanes and aviation since I was little, especially military aircraft. I really got into WWII aircraft because of a love of that time period. WWII affected every single person back then. The stories from then are fascinating to me, and anyone who lived during that time period has a story. Also, there is something about the simplicity of those aircraft (from World War II) versus the complex computer ‘driven’ aircraft of today. I still though do enjoy modern military jets. My favorite is a World War IIUnited States fighter plane the P-51 Mustang.
Q: If you could be one transformer, what would it be?
A: I would definitely transform into a fighter jet. I’d be one of the Autobot jets though, not like
Starscream and those evil Decepticons. I’m a good guy!
Q: How long have you been playing guitar for?
A: When I arrived at college, almost every guy in the dorm had a guitar. So I thought I should get one too.
Q: Why do you like physics so much? If you could teach another subject, what would it be?
A: Physics encompasses everything in our world (and beyond!). You can pick something to talk about and there is a way that physics ties into it. If I could teach another subject, it would probably be social studies, although I would probably just spend 100% of the time on WWII and be fired eventually.
Q: Your family does themed Halloween costumes… who comes up with the ideas?
A: Pretty much me. I am awesome. In all seriousness, my wife and daughters though have definitely helped out. My wife actually started the whole thing……now we have this pressure to continue after a couple years of doing it!
Q: Is there anything else that you want people to know about you?
A: I am a big collector of WWII items, like equipment, uniforms, photographs, letters and documents, etc. I have a very extensive collection that I display in my ‘museum’ (aka my basement). I also build scale models of airplanes. I also play ice hockey. And….. I am a nerd.
Q: How did it feel winning the jersey contest?
A: It’s always great to win. It basically became a popularity contest, but I did think we had a better jersey design.
Q: How long have you been playing hockey?
A: I played roller hockey since before they had rollerblades. I only started ice hockey about two years ago.
