Love him or hate him, Young Thug is here to stay. With his polarizing flow and pseudo-cerebrallyrics he has effectively split the rap world into two camps, those who hail him as rap’s latest savior and
those who can’t stand him. In his newest release, Slime Season,
he furthers his position as rap’s favorite weirdo. Thug has been hit with rumors of being gay in a very homophobic industry, according to the pop culture website inquistr, “his choices combined with his
obsession of other male rappers leave many wondering if he is the first gay gangster rapper.”
This album is a prime example of the internet’s ability to streamline the “mixtape” process. No longer does an album have to be a cohesive piece of music, but it can be a collection of songs that may
sound good individually but not together. While this album sounds good as its individual parts, it doesn’t quite fit together as a whole.
“Best Friend.” the single from Slime Season,is an amazingly catchy song whose hook won’t leave your head. “Draw Down” is another instant classic; Thug’s eccentric lyricism and even stranger voice
blend together into a great closer for the album. Despi
te the barriers thug has had to face, he has solidified
himself as a major player in the rap game.
