LANGHORNE, Pa. (September 22, 2015) – The Columbia Scholastic Press Association announced the winners from the newspaper and magazine categories of its 32nd Gold Circle Awards program.
Junior editors Gauri Mangala and Ashley Reiss were awarded first place in the Feature Page Design Category for their spread “What am I Going to Do This Summer?” published on pages 6B and 7B in the June 10, 2015 issue of The Playwickian. The Awards attracted 11,110 entries produced by students at colleges, universities and secondary schools throughout the United States.
This year marks the fourth consecutive Gold Circle Award earned by a member of the Playwickian staff. Last year, senior managing editor Eishna Ranganathan was awarded first place in the Personal opinion: on-campus issues for news publications category for her article, “‘School mascot: point of pride for high school” published in the Oct. 23, 2013 issue of the Playwickian.
In the fall of 2013, Dakota Kalman, class of 2015, was awarded first place in the Personal opinion: Off-campus issues category for her article, “‘Stand your ground laws’ blur murder, self-defense” published in the March 15, 2013 issue of the Playwickian.
For the first time in the Playwickian’s history, Melanie Matyi, class of 2013, received third place in the Personal Opinion category for on-campus issues in 2012.
