Homecoming is often a time for alumni to come back to Neshaminy to enjoy a football game and the welcoming atmosphere. Many of Neshaminy’s graduating classes did so on October 5, at this year’s homecoming. To recognize the 50 year anniversary of their own graduation, the former Redskins, of the class of 1962, set aside the time to reunite at the game.
The alumni sat in their own designated section on the far end of the home stands, and all wore name tags to easily identify former classmates.
Many of the Neshaminy graduates were in attendance to participate in the homecoming festivities and watch the game. Class of ’62 alumni Jon Greene traveled all the way from Houston, Texas to see his old classmates. “I’m very impressed with it all. Not just with the game, but the booths and the atmosphere too,” Greene said.
The alumni had a chance to catch up with their old friends and remember the times they had together at Neshaminy High School. “I think everybody here would agree that they enjoyed their times here at Neshaminy,” former Redskin football player Ed Kaminski, “there was no turmoil, it was a fun time.”
Many students from the recently graduated class of 2012 came to celebrate and share their pride as well . “I had a great time at homecoming. It felt great to be back at my high school and I am proud to say that I graduated from Neshaminy. I got to see a lot of my friends that I don’t get to see at college and of course I got to see a great game,” ’12 graduate Dan Williams said.
The attitudes of the alumni in attendance show that the annual game isn’t always about winning or losing, but rather reuniting with the people they grew up with. High school is a time in which classmates form bonds over the course of 4 years, and homecoming provides a chance to return to the very field they graduated from in order to celebrate the past. Essentially, homecoming is a way of welcoming the former Redskins back home.
