After growing up with our classmates for four years, we graduate and all go our separate ways. Some go directly into the work force, some go to college and others like Langhorne-born and 2011 Neshaminy graduate, Michael Kane, join the military.
Just three months after graduation, Kane was already enlisted in the Marine Corps. He was proudly serving his country as a cadet with the Civil Air Patrol Squad 101 of Bucks County until the evening of Thursday, Sept. 13 when he was killed in a car crash. He was just 19 when he passed away.
The crash occurred in North Carolina around 10:45 pm from a result of traveling at a very high speed. The vehicle “flipped several times and crashed into a ditch in Onslow County on Highway 172,” according to phillyburbs.com.
“He was really sweet and nice to me…I was sad about it in the fact that a year ago I graduated with him and now he’s just gone,” Sara Thomas said, also a 2011 Neshaminy graduate. “I would [have] never imagined losing someone who I just went to school with so young.” Friends, family and classmates have been sharing their thoughts and prayers on Kane’s Facebook page.
On the morning of Sept 21 at 11:30, his Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Grace Church in Penndel which will be followed by the Rite of Committal in Washington Crossing National Cemetery. “Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, from 6 – 9 pm and on Friday from 9:30 until 10:45 am at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown,” according to doughertyfuneralhome.com.
