The tradition of Neshaminy’s Senior Class Trip began on the evening of Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013. Inspired by the success of their Junior Class Trip, a dinner cruise on the Spirit of Norfolk, the Class of 2014 boarded the Spirit of Philadelphia cruise at Penn’s Landing.
In its first year, the trip had around 85 students and cost $70. Since then, the trip has skyrocketed in popularity, with 413 out of 731 (~56.5%) seniors attending (total senior class figure sourced from U.S.News.com).
This popularity doesn’t come without concerns, however. Above all else, the biggest concern surrounding the trip for students has been the price, costing $90 this year. Although this price hasn’t increased in the past few years, it remains a considerable amount and could pose issues for some students.
When asked about the price of the trip, Len Davis, a Neshaminy High School Teacher who helps plan events such as the Senior Dinner Cruise, explained, “Our price is based on what places and venues will charge us. When a student or parent tells us it is tough financially, we do all we can to help” Davis also stated that “[t]he event is not something that changes. The kids board the ship, they are fed, they dance, and go on the outside decks and take tons of pics.”
A Neshaminy graduate voiced their praise about their experience with the trip.
“It was a great night,” they shared. “My friends and I had so much fun, and it’s something I still look back on.”
However, not all past attendees share the same opinion.
Another recent Neshaminy graduate shared their mixed feelings about the trip.
“I liked hanging out with my friends,” they commented, “but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. With the money [my friends] and I paid, we probably could’ve set up something more fun.”
But what do you think: is the Senior Dinner Cruise worth it?
