FEASTERVILLE, PA – A garden center that has become a staple of Lower Southampton is shutting its doors after seventy years of service. Feeney’s has become a popular destination in the Lower Bucks County area due to its wide array of home decor items and vibrant holiday lights that stretch all across the store. Unfortunately, the store announced that it will be going out of business very soon.
The company announced the closure on social media Thursday night, stating that “With a bittersweet mix of gratitude and reflection, Feeney’s in Feasterville, a beloved gift shop, garden center, and Christmas store that has been a cornerstone of our community for more than 71 years, announces its decision to close its doors.”
While Feeney’s has not given a clear reason for the closure, many speculate that it may be related to the passing of Feeney’s founder, James Feeney, in November of 2024.
James Feeney founded the business in 1954, and it grew from a small, local nursery to a large twelve-acre garden and home store. Along with gardening equipment and home decor, it has become a holiday season tradition in the tri-state area with an abundance of Christmas lights and displays. According to phillyburbs.com, the store is “the largest dealer of current and retired Christmas villages in the Northeast.”
Following the announcement of the store’s closure, Feeney’s began a massive going out of business sale, which drew hundreds of customers to the store starting on Friday, Jan. 10. The immense crowds and lengthy checkout lines led to the store having to cut back its hours just so all the customers were out of the store by the time workers had to leave.
According to employees, the store will close for good March 1 at the latest, but with the huge crowds flocking to the store, it’s expected to close even sooner.
Feeney’s has been a Lower Bucks staple and holiday tradition ever since it first opened. As one customer said on Facebook, “I am literally tearing up at the news. This was a staple of my childhood and early adulthood, and I still travel in my 50s to see your store. My grandparents lived a few blocks away and it was a staple of Christmas to wander through. Thank you for all the memories.”
