The standings for the NFL playoffs for the 2024-2025 season got finalized slowly during the end of the regular season. Overall, 14 teams made the playoffs from both the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC).
The rankings in the NFC were the Detroit Lions in first, the Philadelphia Eagles in second, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in third, the Los Angeles Rams in fourth, the Minnesota Vikings in fifth, the Washington Commanders in sixth, and the Green Bay Packers in seventh.
The rankings in the AFC were the Kansas City Chiefs in first, the Buffalo Bills in second, the Baltimore Ravens in third, the Houston Texans in fourth, the Los Angeles Chargers in fifth, the Pittsburgh Steelers in sixth, and the Denver Broncos in seventh.
The Wild Card round started the weekend of Jan. 11, 2025. The first round of playoffs led to six teams advancing along with the Chiefs and the Lions who earned a bye for the first round. Two games were played on that Saturday and they were both for the opportunity to get to the AFC Divisional round.
First, the Texans and the Chargers played at 4:30 p.m. ET and then the Ravens played the Steelers at 6:30 p.m. ET. Both of these games ended with the higher ranked team winning, those being the Texans and the Ravens. One more game to get to the next round for the AFC was played on Sunday, Jan. 12. This game was played by the Bills and the Broncos at 1 p.m. ET. The Bills, being the higher ranked team, ended up winning the game 31-7.
Next, the NFC games were played. The Eagles and the Packers played first at 4:30 p.m. ET on that Sunday. Soon after, the Buccaneers and the Commanders played at 8 p.m. ET. The last game to be played was by the Rams and the Vikings at 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14. The Eagles and the Rams were the higher ranked teams and they both ended up winning and moving onto the NFC Divisional round. On the other hand, the Commanders were ranked lower and ended up beating the Buccaneers 23-20.
Next, the Divisional round happened on the weekend of Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025. This round narrowed it down to four teams, two in each conference. Both the NFC and the AFC had a game on that Saturday. First, the Chiefs and the Texans played at 4:30 p.m. ET to advance to the AFC Championship. The Chiefs ended up winning this game with a score of 23-14. The Bills and the Ravens also played each other to advance to the AFC Championship on that Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET. With a tight end score of 27-25, the Bills came out with the win.
The first game for the NFC was played by Lions and Commanders on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET. The Commanders gave Lions’ fans a big upset as they won 45-31. The Lions were the first seed, so it was a big win for the Commanders who were ranked sixth. The next day, the Eagles played the Rams at 3 p.m. ET. The Eagles won a “nail biter”, ending with a score of 28-22. Now, two teams remain in each conference.
Four teams played on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025 to see who would play in the Super Bowl. These games were very important and revealed the conference champions for the AFC and the NFC. The NFC played first and the game was played by the Eagles and the Commanders at 3 p.m. ET. The Commanders could not come up with a victory in this game as the Eagles took an early and large lead. The final score was 55-23, naming the Eagles The NFC Champions and punching their ticket to the Super Bowl.
Later on, the Chiefs faced the Bills at 6:30 p.m. ET. This matchup has been recurring for the past few years as these two teams both have very strong foundations. The Chiefs have won every team they met in the AFC Championship and they continued that streak as they won 32-29. Super Bowl LIX is confirmed to be the Chiefs playing the Eagles, the same Super Bowl matchup from the 2022-2023 season.
The big game was played on Feb. 9, 2025 at the pre-picked location of Caesar’s Superdome in New Orleans. These two teams had a very competitive game, but one had to win. These teams had faced before and everyone wondered if the Chiefs could win it again, or if the Eagles could get their revenge.
The Eagles came back for revenge this year and are now named the NFL’s 2025 Super Bowl Champions! The city of Philadelphia is booming and celebration is being spread throughout. This team had a rocky start to their season, but they came back better than ever. We’ll have to see if they can keep it up next year.
