The annual Neshaminy High School (NHS) Powderpuff game took place on Nov. 26 in the Harry E. Franks Stadium. Senior girls split up into two teams of red and blue and competed for this year’s victory. The game ended with a 21-7 win for the Blue team but was filled with exciting moments and play that will last a lifetime.
A month before the nail-biting game, each team practiced twice a week in preparation. The practice paid off and was evident throughout the whole game.
The game was filled with standout plays from both sides, such as runningback Abby Collins’ 75-yard touchdown for the Blue team, and Red quarterback Kiera Siwinsky’s spiral throws. Adding to the fierce competition, Blue runningback Elena Cofield’s redemption touchdown and Red runningback Kasey Reiger’s relentless speed kept the game interesting.
While the competition was fierce, once the clock hit 0, Red and Blue teams were once again able to reunite.
“Even though [the] Red team lost, Powderpuff was such a fun experience that I’ll forever remember,” Red team senior Valerie Servellion explained. “Even though there were some conflicts between [the] Red and Blue team, we all know that once the clock hit zero, we were still the class of ‘25.”
For some, the Powderpuff experience was about trying something new with your friends.
“Powderpuff was an eye-opening experience considering how I had no clue how to actually play football,” an anonymous senior explained. “I was coached to play D-line by my classmates who actually play football. It was definitely dumbed down for us because we only had 3 plays and it was not very complex. But overall it was really fun to learn something new and socialize with my teammates.”
While the competition might have been fierce, and emotions high, many will treasure the experience for years to come.
“Powderpuff is such a fun and unique experience that I will always remember,” Kaitlyn Stevens, a senior on the red team reminisced. “The amount of effort put into the practices added to the experience. At the end of the day, everyone came together for a fun high school experience.”
