Recently the Philadelphia Eagles football team announced their 2015 Coach of the Week honorees. In this list, 10 high school football coaches in the area were recognized for their hard work and dedication to the football program at their high school, and were presented with a donation of 1 thousand dollars to aid the athletic program at there. Included in this list, was head coach of Neshaminy football, Steve Wilmot.

“To be recognized by the Eagles organization is a great honor. They are obviously the marquee name for football in the Philadelphia area,” Wilmont said. This past football season was Wilmot’s first as head coach, after previous head coach Mark Schmidt resigned last winter. “I am very humbled because there are some very good coaches, who had great years, not on the list,” Wilmot said.

Even though this is his first year as head coach Wilmot has been a part of the program for numerous years. Wilmot began coaching in the fall of 1995, the same year Schmidt became head coach. “My original motivation for coaching was my loyalty to Coach Schmidt and to give back to the game of football,” Wilmot said. Together the coaches led Neshaminy to one state title and three District One championship titles, as well as many unforgettable victories at Heartbreak ridge.

“My favorite memory as a head coach was how all the players banded together and played in our first regular season game, against Montclair, and our last regular season game, against Pennsbury,” Wilmot said. Both of these games ended in victories for the team.

“As a team we have to continue to work hard to replace the great bunch of seniors we had this year,” Wilmot said. “As always, everyone in the community wants to see Neshaminy competitive in the playoffs, so that is what we will be working hard to do.”
