The Neshaminy Redskins Varsity football team was able to beat the Council Rock North Indians 38 to 26 in the annual homecoming game. With the win, the Redskins were able to improve their record to four wins and two losses on the season.
Going into the homecoming game, the ‘Skins record was three wins and two losses. The game was crucial because a loss would have sent the Redskins’ record to three wins and three losses, and put them in a hole to start the second half of their season. “I want our guys to feel relaxed and prepared,” head coach Mark Schmidt said.
The Redskins ground game exploded as the team combined 38 carries for 256 yards. They averaged more than six yards per carry and scored three touchdowns. Nate Hall led the ground game for the ‘Skins with 21 carries for 146 yards and a touchdown. Senior wide receiver Justin Andrews also played a big part in the offense, catching six passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, Neshaminy forced three turnovers; two fumble recoveries by Senior Alex McKenzie and an interception by Junior Devon Brown. Brian Toal and Denny Lord each had five tackles to lead the team. As a team the Redskins sacked the quarterback five times, two by junior Blake Sullivan.
With a strong team win Neshaminy is looking to finish the second half of the season they way they started it. With games left against Council Rock South, Bensalem, Abbington, and rival Pennsbury, the Redskins are hoping to take care of business and return to the playoffs.
