Senior boys pageant returns to Neshaminy

On Thursday April 24 Neshaminy held their annual senior boys pageant, which began in 2012. Any senior boy who wanted to participate was permitted and there were a total of 19 contestants. The contestants included; Mark Henry, Trokon Buesmaill, James Tuttle, Will Dean, David Caldwell, Steve Keashon, Thom Monaco, Matt Elonis, Brandon Gathercole, Dan Fox, Roman Krutikov, Anas Kabbani, Todge Rzepka, Jeremy Diamond, Booby Winther, Evan Passcucci, Ryan Kane, and Jake Murray.

The pageant has multiple parts – one being the collection of money for a charity of the participant’s choice. The winner of this portion gets a point toward winner overall and the money collected by all contestants goes to the charity the winner chose, Anas Kabbani, The winner of this portion of the contest raised $2,9000 for the Syrian Sunrise Foundation. The foundation helps to raise money for starving children in Syria.

“It was one of the most fun experiences of my life, and it was really nice to be able to raise all that money for Syrian children,” Kabbani said.

Another part of the contest is ticket sales. Mark Henry won this portion selling a total of 60 tickets, or 300 dollars worth.

“I really like that everyone comes out and supports the seniors, everyone involved this year was very supportive of each other and the experience in general creates better friendships,” Henry said.

Talent is another part of the pageant – with everything from ribbon dancing by Jeremy Diamond to story telling by Dan Fox. Most of the talent is done in humor, to try to get the most laughs from the crowd while others really get to showcase their true talents. Regardless of this the boys put a lot of work into their performances, and it shows.

The sportswear portion serves mostly as a joke as well – for instance David Caldwell came on stage in a woman’s tennis uniform. Though some, like Steve Keashon, wore what they normally wear for the sport they participate in- a speedo.

The overall winner of the senior boys pageant was Will Dean, who was presented with the sash by last year’s winner, Pete Standford.
