‘Popcorn girl’ picture poses potential

By Nina Caruso

Talented Neshaminy Advanced Photography student and senior Rita Iovine The massively popular avant garde/beauty photo, entitled “Popcorn girl,” taken by talented Neshaminy Advanced Photography student and senior Rita Iovine, has been chosen from thousands nationwide to be represented in Drexel University’s 2014 High School Photography Contest exhibit. The photo, originally shot simply for fun and creative expression, will now be on display at the college among 100 others and has the potential to be one of six final 500 dollar grand prize contest winners.

The subject of the photo, or The real-life Popcorn Girl, Anna McFadden, a senior at Nazareth Academy, said, “…it’s insane to think that something my friend (Rita) and I do in our spare time is now getting recognition and praise. I’m so excited that she’s making her way in the world doing something she loves and I’m honored to be a part of it.”

McFadden trusts Iovine’s artistic ability and, while questioning why she would be covered in popcorn at first, is ecstatic with the photo shoot’s results. She is a close friend of Iovine’s and a popular subject in her photography.
