Neshaminy High School has some serious issues in the priority department. Every day another student buckles under the overwhelming pressures of school and life. Teachers are too busy pushing papers—massive loads of work—than taking a moment to step back and look at their students. They insist that we study, but they refuse to study their own environment. If they stepped back and looked around they may actually be able to observe the pain in many people’s eyes.

When everybody is too ignorant to acknowledge the suffering of others- how will the suffering survive? Mental illnesses, family emergencies and physical injuries are all overridden by essays, quizzes, tests and projects.

Senior Tom Collins said, “The food is god awful and makes me feel worse after eating it than not eating at all.” All of the food in the cafeteria was switched over to “healthy” choices but many of these foods are actually worse for you than the original products sold. “Research suggests that they may prevent us from associating sweetness with caloric intake. As a result, we may crave more sweets, tend to choose sweet food over nutritious food, and gain weight” (Harvard Health). If we are putting artificial sweetener into our body then of course we will feel unhappy, we will just be craving more sweets all day!

Another reason that so many students are unhappy is the massive amount of people crammed into the school. “The inability of people to walk in the hallways really makes me upset.” senior Hoyt Hoelper said. Everybody is jammed together with no space for breathing. It’s incredibly stressful.

How could anybody ever achieve happiness when their pressure levels are upped day in and day out? They simply cannot. The fear and anxiety of school is felt by many, if not all, attending Neshaminy High School. We need to take the extra step to acknowledge and repair the issues and unhappiness of students and the overall atmosphere for teaching will improve greatly.
