Trevose boasts contemporary culinary flare

Osaki Japanese Cuisine is a new and exciting restaurant that is sure to offer a new addition to the area’s variety. It offers a place for someone to get a delicious Japanese eating experience where one could either order hibachi, sushi, or sashimi at a deeply discounted price. Natalie Caruso and I went with open minds and no previous expectations and we were definitely impressed.

The restaurant is located at 3949 Brownsville Road in Trevose and it is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

As someone enters the restaurant they see the interior design which is characterized with dimly lit wooden stalls, a sushi bar and a subtle oriental décor. Osaki had a comfy feel but it would have been nice to have a brighter atmosphere so that it doesn’t put its patrons to sleep. The only thing that was actually bothersome was the incessant music which sounded like the background sound track of a forest scene in a movie.

As soon as we walked in we were seated to a stall that could easily fit four people but they gave it to us because it didn’t look like there was anyone else in there anyway. After we were seated, we had our waitress get our enormous order that included more than five dishes each but as soon as we ordered it we had all the food out in under 20 minutes. The wait staff was extremely friendly and accommodating to our questions we had about the food and restaurant.

There were so many great dishes that they served us from their kitchen including the chicken hibachi and sushi rolls. Don’t expect it to be like an A1 Hibachi Grill with a spectacle being presented in front of you but do expect the same quality and hard work to go into how they make and present the food on the plate.

The sushi was beautifully presented on a plate with neatly placed and artfully crafted pieces such as the ninja roll and the yellow tail sashimi. There are plenty of vegetarian and healthy options to choose from on the menu including the vegetable sushi rolls, the tofu rolls, and vegetable hibachi. My personal favorite of all of the vegetarian dishes was the vegetable hibachi and the peanut avocado roll; even though it sounds like a strange combination, it is a great tasting roll with the crunchy peanuts complementing the smooth avocado and rice.

The first thing to come out to the table was the drinks and then after we ordered the food the waitress gave Natalie her salad and soup before they promptly brought out the chicken hibachi dish. Next the waitress brought out the sushi and sashimi which was cleanly presented on large white dishes with bowls for us to pour soy sauce into. We finished the meal with the check and fresh orange slices to cleanse our palates.

Osaki is also very affordable to anyone willing to pay about $10 because they have a full menu of half price dishes that is served all day every day. From that menu one could order a full hibachi dinner or many different orders of sushi or sashimi. A decent sized chicken hibachi dinner costs $7.95; that’s well within any high school student’s price range.

Osaki is for anyone looking for a healthy alternative to the burger joints in the area or anyone who loves Japanese cuisine and doesn’t want to spend an arm and a leg. Osaki is definitely a worthwhile place for any student to go to. I’m sure I will go back there soon, but I need to make arrangements before everyone else finds out about Feasterville’s hidden gem.
