Protesters attack Ryan Lochte on ‘Dancing with the Stars’

Twelve-time Olympic swimming medalist, Ryan Lochte was met with surprise after protestors charged onto the “Dancing with the Stars” stage during the live season premiere after his anticipated performance with Cheryl Burke on Monday, Sept. 12. The reports identifed the protestors as two men and four women wearing shirts with Lochte’s name crossed out as they trespassed onto the stage.

Lochte’s behavior during the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in August has caused many people to become critical of Lochte. Shortly after the Olympic swimming competition ended, Lochte had claimed he and some other swimmers were pulled over by security and pointed at by a gun. The image of Rio de Janeiro turned negative after this incident; however, Lochte eventually confessed that he had manipulated and over exaggerated his story when further investigations were taken place, revealing that, in reality, Lochte had vandalized a gas station while he was drunk.

Although the incident was not shown clearly on live television during the dance competition, viewers could make out the incident as judge Carrie Ann Inaba was making her remarks about Lochte’s performance. The two men, now identified as Sam Satoodeh and Barzeen Soroundi, were approaching the stage before they were stopped by security and arrested as the crowd shouted “liar.” The protestors believed Lochte should be removed from the show even after he accepted the penalty and punishments from the incident.

“Our purpose is to get the message out that Lochte is a coward, a liar and under Brazilian law, a criminal,” Satoodeh told ABC News.

The two men each had a bail of one thousand dollars after being charged for suspicion on misdemeanor trespassing. In order to avoid any future confrontations for Ryan Lochte, producers of “Dancing of the Stars” were forced to rethink their security measures.

“Even though Lochte was wrong in the incident at Rio de Janeiro, I admire that he is trying to push through the criticisms and deals with these protests maturely,” said junior Julianna Mathew.

Immediately after the incident, Burke and Lochte were both shown to be shocked and shaken. Lochte even suffered from an ankle injury after one of the protestor was tackled and fell onto Lochte.

“You know, at that moment, I was really heartbroken,” he said. “My heart just sunk. It felt like somebody just ripped it apart,” said Lochte to CNN following the incident.
