Harry Potter to return

By Connor Menzel
Staff Writer

In 2011, the last book in the famous Harry Potter series became a movie in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. The movie ended with a zoom ahead in time to when Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley’s second son, Albus Severus Potter was leaving to go to Hogwarts for the first time along with their oldest son, James Sirius Potter. Their only daughter was whining in the background about not being old enough to go yet.

Ron Weasley was also there with his wife, Hermione Granger, and their two children, Rose, who is just going to Hogwarts and Hugo, who is too young to go, just like Harry’s daughter, Lily. Everyone watching at the theaters or at home was sad that this was the last time they would see the whole Harry Potter gang together. However, it now appears that this scene was not the end after all.

J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter book series has just announced that she has written a screenplay for a play titled, “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” that will premiere in the Palace Theater in London in late June 2016. Unfortunately, the play is almost entirely sold out for the first 3 months of performances.

This new play takes place just after the final moments on platform nine-and-three quarters when Harry’s middle son goes to Hogwarts for the first time. On the website of the play, there is a brief look at what it is about in 2 paragraphs. One of the lines says, “While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.”

This line seems to portray that the storyline will involve Harry’s son dealing with many kids at school who recognize the famous Potter name, and Harry himself has trouble putting his past behind him.
The play is said to have over 30 casted actors and actresses playing the parts of many wizards, witches, and muggles in the Harry Potter universe. The play was written by Rowling herself, so it should be great.

English teacher Mrs. McCreary, when she was talking about this play said, “It sounds very good. I’m a huge fan of Harry Potter. I think it will also be interesting to see the theme of darkness coming from unexpected places be developed.”

The actor who played Harry Potter in the movies, Daniel Radcliffe, made a comment when he was asked if he was going to play the part of Harry in the play: “I’m getting asked a lot, ‘Would you play him?’ and I’m like, ‘No.’ “Because I’ve done it.”

The tickets are currently on sale on the play’s website for anywhere from £30 to £130 a ticket, which equals about $45 to $195. It’s expensive, but most likely a very good play.
