Boys’ Bowling captures state title for individual, team alike

By Jackson Haines

For individual and team alike , it was not easy.

Yet for individual and team alike, all the pins fell into place, and both David Moffit and the team he led would win their respective individual and team state titles.

Moffit, however, had to last beyond the 10 frames, and move onto a roll-off, essentially overtime frames. Moffit and his opponent, Jared Shaner of Armstrong High School, were tied at 211 a piece at the end of their match. Shaner was actually one strike away from the title, but he hit nine pins instead. Moffit capitalized on this in the roll-off, getting a strike in the first extra round. A round later, Moffit succesfully outlasted his opponent . At the end of the roll-off, Moffitt stood as the survivor of the showdown, the best bowler in the state, the state-champion.

Neshaminy bowler’s AJ Wolstenhome and Holden Tisone finished 14th and 24th in the state, respectively.

The next day on March 21, the team as a whole competed for its own state title. The boys took on Hempfield in a Baker format final.

The first game went to Neshaminy, 204-194, but Hempfield stole game two to 227-197. Led by Wolstenhome this time around, Neshaminy took game three and the title, 235-223.

It was the first time Neshaminy had won the state title in bowling, and the first Neshaminy state title since the girls’ soccer team snagged the PIAA title in soccer in 2013.
