Black Friday week on the rise

The most anticipated shopping day of the year, Black Friday has seemed to have evolved over the years into Black Friday week. This year, some stores have even opened their doors at eight p.m. Thanksgiving night.

While some people may not mind camping outside of a computer store for 25 percent off of a tablet, who is there to speak for those employees who have to leave their Thanksgiving dinner early?

Several Target employees expressed their anger toward the situation in a petition on change.org and as of Nov. 24, it had racked up over 200 thousand signatures. Walmart was another store to open their doors at eight p.m.

On Kelly and Michael, a woman said that she “was having her Thanksgiving dinner the night before” so that she could go out early on Black Thursday.

Sure, it is up to the store, the hours that they open, but where is the line being drawn for an employee’s rights, considering that Thanksgiving is a national holiday.

It is ironic that some Americans gather around the dinner table and say what they are thankful for, then go out and shop for things they want.
