Baseball left out of playoffs

Coming into a new season filled with questions the Neshaminy Redskins baseball team was looking to build off of some of the success it had last year. With new head coach Chris Tenaglia replacing Dennis Cox as head coach and a new group of core players Neshaminy came into the season seeking another playoff season.

The Redskins didn’t get off to the start they wanted to. The team lost its first three games of the season. They lost 11-4 at Souderton, 9-4 home against Pennridge, and 11-6 against North Penn. “We didn’t really have an identity to at the start of the season,” head coach Chris Tenaglia said.

Neshaminy was able to snap its three game losing streak thanks to a one hit shut out pitched by Justin Andrews, who got plenty of support from the offense as the skins’ coasted to a 10-0 home win against Abbington. With there first win of the season under there belts the ’Skins picked up an 8-6 victory against Pennsbury for there second win of the year.

After rebounding from there slow start the Skins’ went on another three game losing streak. Neshaminy’s offense only managed to score four runs over the three game skid and were shut out against Bensalem. Neshaminy could never really get the ball rolling. They went 0-6 against there non-conference opponents. The ‘Skins never won more than two games in a row and didn’t really hit a stride. “Just as others teams, we had our bumps in the road this year,” Tenaglia said.

Even though they didn’t make the postseason there were bright sports in the Skins’ season. The Skins’ were able to go 8-5 in conference play. They beat rival Pennsbury in the two games they played against them this year, beating them 8-6 on the road there first meeting and 8-4 at home the second time to sweep them. They also ended there year on a good note beating Council Rock North 4-1 in the home finally in the final game of the season. “It was great to see the learning process unfold through the season into the finished product on the field against Council Rock North,” Tenaglia said.

With there being both positive and negative things going for Neshaminy this year you can’t really label there season a success or a failure. One thing is for sure though, that with a experienced head coach and more team chemistry going into next year the Skins should be a good contender for the playoffs.
